In AED PSO, Professional Development, Effective Professional Teams

Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27, 8:30-3:00
Hostos Community College [Savoy Bldg., 2nd Fl. Multi-Purpose Room, 120 Walton
Avenue (at 149th St.), Bronx, NY 10451]

This workshop will introduce us to protocols and strategies for working as highly effective
professional learning communities. Following this initial workshop, participants will join one of three
network-wide CFG’s: 1) Academic Rigor; 2) Young Adolescent Development; 3) Grade Level Teaming.
Each CFG will establish norms, engage in reflective dialogue, give each other feedback on work, and
hold each other accountable. Network CFG’s will meet once a month to discuss teaching practice,
examine curriculum and student work, and identify school-culture and equity issues that affect student
achievement. As the year progresses, participants will start CFG’s in their schools. School-based “critical
friends” often observe one another at work, providing challenging yet non-threatening feedback.
