AED Middle School Leadership Project (MSLP)
The Academy for Educational Development’s Middle School Leadership Project (MSLP) is a fully-funded United States Department of Education School Leadership Program focused solely on developing and supporting leadership in Bronx middle grade schools. This comprehensive leadership development program for middle grade leaders in the Bronx consists of two components: 1) the Partners in Leadership Program, (providing professional development and middle grades expertise to participating principals and assistant principals) and, 2) the AED Leadership Fellows Program (preparing experienced assistant principals to become a middle grades principal).
AED New School Development
The mission of the AED School Development program is to guide the planning, implementation and continuous improvement of excellent, equitable secondary schools – schools that provide all adolescent students in grades 6 to 12 with the developmentally appropriate instruction, guidance and additional support necessary for their academic success, social and emotional development, and civic engagement. Drawing on a long history of effective work with secondary schools and their districts and community and professional development partners as well as AED’s expertise in the other areas critical to student achievement—youth development, health, civic engagement, and economic development—the AED School Development program helps new schools to ensure students’ learning and healthy development, high school completion, access to and success in postsecondary education, preparation for work and careers, and active citizenship.
AED PSO
New York’s Children First Reform Agenda is a call for systemic reform that meets the needs of the diverse student populations in New York City. In response to this call, the Academy for Educational Development (AED) is offering a Partnership Support Organization (PSO) with an explicit focus on the middle grades (grades 5 through 8) to ensure student success and a smooth transition across the education pipeline.
Newark Public Schools: Middle Grades Initiative
In 2009-10, with the support of the Victoria Foundation and a contract with Newark Public Schools (NPS), AED and NPS undertook a program to accelerate the transformation of the district’s middle-grades schools. A primary purpose of AED’s work with NPS is to assist the district in creating a system of middle-grades schools that are academically challenging, supportive of adolescent development, focused on continuous learning and improvement, and committed to collaborative community partnerships to support and sustain students’ success.
